Adult Shelter

Opened in 1994, our single, adult shelter is located at 49 Cumberland Street in downtown Brunswick.  There are accommodations for up to 18 men and women in four dormitories.  One two-bed room is handicapped accessible.

adult shelter facilityThe Tedford Shelter offers a warm, dry place to sleep, two hot meals, clean clothes, a chance to talk, and help in finding a permanent home.

But Tedford is more than just a shelter.  An experienced, professional staff helps people develop job skills, locate jobs and housing, and get medical care and other services.

Tedford Shelter is open 365 nights a year.  Staff is on site from 1 p.m. until 11 a.m. during winter hours, and from 3 p.m. until 11 a.m. during summer hours.

Who Can Stay at Tedford?

Anyone who is homeless person can stay at the shelter except:

  • Unaccompanied minors under age 18
  • Those seeking shelter from domestic violence
  • Those under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
  • Sex offenders

All guests agree to the following:

  • Help with daily housekeeping
  • Attend weekly house meetings
  • Follow house rules
  • With staff assistance, make and follow through with a plan to acquire permanent housing.
  • Meet regularly with Tedford Shelter case managers

Individuals may call (207) 725-4871, or come to the shelter at 49 Cumberland Street after 3 p.m. any day of the week.  We welcome referrals form any person or organization, as well as inquiries about our services and facilities.

Normally, individuals may stay for no more than thirty days.  Longer stays are occasionally possible and may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
