Homeless Prevention

We have learned that it is far preferable to prevent homelessness than it is to shelter homeless people through the crisis and stigma that accompany a shelter stay.

Tedford's Homeless Prevention Program consists of:

Information and Referral
We maintain lists of landlords, property management companies, and other housing resources for those requesting assistance.  Our Homeless Prevention Coordinator can help find suitable housing.mother and child former guests

Rental Subsidies
For qualifying single adults and families, we can offer limited assistance with rental security deposits and back rent.  Assistance is in the form of deposits made directly to landlords or loans made to clients.

Landlord-Tenant Relations
We work one-on-one with area landlords in problem solving and landlord-tenant issues.  We provide case management, mediation, and advocacy to assist families in maintaining their housing.

Life Skills Education
Tedford Shelter offers educational sessions that focus on:  good decision making, employment searches, household budgeting, and housing searches.

Childcare Options
We work with area child care providers to provide limited child care hours during employment and housing searches.
